Budweiser. Kate Spade. Nike. Walmart. Ulta Beauty. Crest. No, that’s not a confused shopping list. That’s just a partial list of the big-name brands that have recently hired Dylan Mulvaney to be their public face.
And what a face it is.
If you aren’t familiar, Mulvaney has become something of a national phenomenon as a “transgender woman” — that is, as I will always make a point to say, a man pretending to be a woman. In the last year, Mulvaney has gone from an obscure TikTok star to an overnight “celebrity” and near-omnipresent spokesperson for the transgender madness gripping our nation.
He scored a White House visit with President Biden to raise “trans awareness.” He even got an actual female, actress Drew Barrymore, to bow at his feet in a symbolic gesture of the final fruit of the feminist revolution: A woman kneeling before a man pretending to be a woman because I guess men are even better women than women are. Wild.
The Washington Post explains that Mulvaney’s meteoric rise to stardom really took off during 2022 when he started documenting his “Days of Girlhood’ TikTok series in which “[he] meticulously chronicled [his] experience of transitioning. Mulvaney’s sometimes personal, sometimes humorous videos found a huge audience on TikTok. [He] reportedly amassed more than 6 million TikTok followers during [his] transition journey, and now has nearly 11 million followers.”
Please note that I’ve changed the Washington Post’s use of pronouns in this story to reflect the truth that Mulvaney is a “he” — not a “she.”
From TikTok fame to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and now to dozens of American brands, there’s no denying that Mulvaney is having a moment (to put it blandly). When he’s not pretending to “discover Tampons” or talking about his “lady parts” (that he doesn’t have), he’s bouncing up and down in a Nike sports bra making an absolute clown-world mockery of everything that it means to be a woman (or a man, for that matter). But why would he care about that, when the woke corporate world is lining up to throw all kinds of money and deals his way for putting on his “woman-face” and furthering the moral revolution?
There’s no denying it: Mulvaney has become the mascot of the transgender agenda — costume included. The “powers that be” handpicked him to be the face of the entire gender-bending project right now. It might be a genuine (and genuinely misguided) effort to “raise trans visibility.” Others suggest this may be for sinister reasons. Either way, he’s now the face of our nation — a nation in moral freefall.
What should we think about this? Three brief considerations.
We live in an age of perpetual outrage. Given that, it can be hard to care about the latest moral cliff we find ourselves hurdling over in the rapidly rushing era of American decline. Many Americans probably see Mulvaney co-opting their favorite brand and just silently hope that this “latest fad” will go away as soon as possible.
I’m here to tell you that’s not going to happen. If you think that Mulvaney’s “sister act” is obscene, ugly, and stomach turning (which it is) — wait until you see what comes next. It’s only going to get worse.
Why? Because the entire sexual revolution — the transgender agenda — is a one-way ratchet. The gender revolutionaries and progressives will push it as far as they possibly can, bringing every imaginable perversion onto the center stage of American society and demanding that you look at it, clap for it, and buy the product with its face on it, or else.
Unless we band together, as Christians, conservatives, and reality-lovers, and get off this ride, it’s not going to stop. It’s not going back to normal. This is, to borrow a phrase, the “new normal” — men wearing sports bras talking about their non-existent lady parts and trying to sell you tampons.
Yes, it’s gross. It’s sinful. It’s ugly. That’s the point. And it’s only going to get worse unless we put a stop to the entire transgender agenda — starting now.
Remember, Mulvaney is an actor. That’s his profession. He was in the Broadway play “The Book of Mormon.” And Broadway actors are nothing if not flamboyant. He even admits that he got on TikTok during the pandemic because he was out of work.
If you watch the recap video of his “365 Days of Girlhood” you get a distinct “performance” vibe. Nothing about it comes across as authentic (not that it could be, since for Dylan to be truly authentic he would need to embrace his God-given male sex and masculinity). But it’s not even clear that Dylan believes the lie himself. He doesn’t have to, though, because we currently live in a society that handsomely rewards delusions. Does it really matter if it’s a sincerely held delusion?
Whether this is just one big act from Mulvaney, him “playing a part,” that’s making him millions or not, mainstream media and corporate America don’t care because he’s a useful tool, a social battering ram, in their unyielding pursuit of secularism.
And whether he is faking it or not, the American people are getting played either way. These big brands clearly believe all their customers will stay with them even if they put a man in makeup on their product. Are they wrong? Time will tell.
Paul’s letter to the Galatians provides some timely biblical counsel as we confront this “transanity” and its mascot, Dylan Mulvaney.
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
–Galatians 6:7-9
Big brands might mock women everywhere by plastering Mulvaney’s face on their products, but God isn’t fooled. He’s the author of men and women, after all. You think the Creator can’t spot a fake when He sees one? Of course He can. Which means as Christians, we can too, and we must.
Even as I write this article the hashtag “#DylanMulvaneyIsAMan” is trending on Twitter. That’s an encouraging sign.
But back to the Bible. Notice the warning in the verses: “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction.” Mulvaney is sowing from his flesh in this foolish effort to pretend to be a woman — something he can never be. The world is indulging this dangerous pursuit, literally paying him for it. All those praising him for “being brave” or “true to himself” are joining in the sowing of sin.
What will they reap? Destruction.
If nothing changes, Mulvaney will face God’s righteous judgment for his sins and suffer eternally for his rejection of both the Creator and the creation order. And no endorsement can save him on that day.
Yet along with the warning comes a promise of Gospel hope: “Whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” The first step in sowing to please the Spirit is repentance. Mulvaney, America, and yes, you and me, must all repent of our misplaced “confidence in the flesh” and cling to the cross of Christ, where Jesus bore our sins “in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; ‘by his wounds you have been healed’” (1 Peter 2:24).
Finally, look at the encouragement to persevere: “Let us not become weary in doing good.” Yes, it can be exhausting to watch the trans-madness march across our country, conquering one institution and product after another like a devouring horde of locusts. But don’t grow weary of doing good, which in this case means doing things like speaking up, speaking truth, and boycotting as many of these brands as you can.
To be sure, I don’t want to buy a single product that the face of our moral freefall as a nation is selling. I do want to offer him something, however, and it doesn’t cost a thing: The free gift of grace in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Yes, I am tired of seeing his fake girl face all over the place. But even more than wanting to see that silliness gone, I hope that he would, as the hymn tells us, “Turn [his] eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.”
Indeed, the face of Christ is the only face that can save our nation from transgender terror and its woman-faced mascot, Mr. Mulvaney. So, the next time you see yet another brand using him to sell their products, go ahead and put it on your boycott list, but then say a prayer — that this troubled young man would see Christ as savior before he sees Him as judge.
