The Tide is Turning for the Better…but Conservatives Must Keep Pressing On

/

It feels like America is on the cusp of a national and spiritual renewal, but conservatives cannot become complacent. We should seize the opportunity to reclaim ground for life, liberty, and the values that make our nation great.

“When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan” (Proverbs 29:2).

In the past four years, we’ve resonated with how the “people groan” when the wicked are in power.

Many lost their jobs and livelihoods or were warned of a “winter of severe illness and death” for not getting an experimental injection during COVID. Conservatives were demonized and called threats to democracy. Pro-life and January 6 protesters were jailed or labeled “domestic terrorists.” Savings dwindled as gas prices, interest rates, and inflation climbed. Wars and conflicts precipitated around the world. Communities suffered avoidable tragedies as a result of destructive, open border policies. Evil practices like abortion and medical mutilation were celebrated from the White House down.

The wicked ruled, and the people groaned.

Thankfully, the darkness of this time is finally clearing. There is now a palpable sense that the tide is turning, and things are trending in the right direction.

A New Day

President Donald J. Trump has now officially taken the oath of office for a second term, after achieving the most historic comeback in American politics. His unprecedented victory in November painted the electoral map red, sweeping the swing states and winning the popular vote, a first for a Republican president in two decades.

Outside of politics, athletes profess Christ and give thanks to God more and more frequently. Major corporations like Walmart and Ford are abandoning discriminatory “diversity, equity, and inclusion” policies. The bad ideas that fueled the Black Lives Matter anarchy and the hysteria of 2020 are now being mocked. Meta is reversing speech-suppressing policies on its platform. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a longtime opponent of freedom, is resigning. Hamas has begun releasing Israeli hostages. The truth of Christ’s resurrection was just proclaimed on Joe Rogan’s podcast, in what is likely to be the furthest-reaching gospel broadcast in history.

This is not negating the presence of wickedness in our society, because evil policies, practices, and people still prevail. But it does seem that the eyes of many are being opened and that the ground is ripe for change for the better.

President Trump now starts his second term after facing 34 felony counts, an FBI raid, baseless attacks, and even bullets and assassination attempts in the four years since he left office. Later this week, on Friday, tens of thousands of pro-lifers, primarily from Generation Z, will descend on the National Mall to advocate for defenseless children in the womb at the annual pro-life march.

Even in our post-Christian nation, the tide is turning, and a new birth of freedom appears to be on the horizon.

Celebrate, Then Press On

If events happened any differently in the Butler, Pennsylvania, field on July 13, we would be looking at an unimaginably different landscape right now. But in God’s providence, Donald Trump narrowly escaped death when a would-be assassin’s bullet nicked the edge of his ear. Mere seconds and the slight turn of the head, but ultimately the hand of God, preserved his life.

It’s an exciting time to be an American. This is not only because we were spared from what would have been the most anti-life, anti-Christian presidential administration, but for the first time in modern history, Republicans will control the White House and both chambers of Congress with a conservative majority on the Supreme Court.

No matter who is in the White House or halls of power, God is sovereign over all and holds the hearts of kings in His hand (Proverbs 21:1). Of course, we do not look to a president or political party to “save” us, as we do not trust in “chariots” or “horses” but in the Lord our God (Psalm 20:7).

But it is certainly exciting to see what is in store for our nation, and I believe our best days are ahead. It feels as if we are on the cusp of a national renewal where good is promoted, evil is restrained, justice is done, and American greatness is restored. More importantly, I pray we are on the cusp of a spiritual revival and reformation in our churches.

The tide is turning. Instead of letting our celebration turn to complacency and squandering this unique moment, now is the time to seize the opportunity before us, correct course, and reclaim ground for life, liberty, and the values that make our nation great.
