The Standing for Freedom Center at Liberty University exists to defend life, liberty, and truth to ensure the foundations of freedom exist for the next generation. We advocate strongly for values, principles, and policies that are wholly consistent with the Christian faith established by the authority of God’s Word.
As a distinctively Christian nonprofit, we do not endorse a political party or candidate for public office, but we unashamedly stand for religious liberty, the sanctity of human life, the defense of marriage, and the traditional family. Our nonprofit status does not prevent us from speaking the truth about these priorities nor does it prevent us from offering honest criticism of any political platform when it runs afoul of our deeply held religious convictions. We are obligated to speak the truth in love, and we will not be silent.
As candidates of all stripes and political parties convene their national conventions this summer, and even now, to release their platform priorities, we call upon American evangelicals, conservatives, and all Christians to stand boldly and vocally for life, marriage, family, and religious liberty without compromise. We urge candidates, party leaders, and national representatives not to push past, brush off, or ignore the most pressing concerns that are central to Christian values and the deep-rooted traditional values of most Americans.
In an age of sweeping cultural chaos, moral confusion, and spiritual decline, clarity and contrast on the issues of life, marriage, and family have never been more politically practical and morally necessary. At a time when the most powerful forces in the government, major news media, and entertainment wish to blur and blend these distinctions, candidates and party leaders need to draw bold lines of distinctions on the culture of life vs. the culture of death.
The American electorate needs to see real clarity on policies that support pro-life, pro-faith, and pro-family values. Conservative evangelical voters should never feel politically alienated, homeless, or abandoned by those who have consistently courted and counted on their support for decades.
This is a time for choosing in America: Which way forward?
Any candidate or party platform that ignores the concerns that align with deeply held religious convictions or any platform that downplays the significance of religious liberty, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family does so to the detriment of their platform and will most assuredly weaken enthusiasm and dampen the overwhelming turnout of the evangelical base.
