Conservative Christians and the 2024 Election: Four Crucial Concerns

/

With the 2024 election season on the horizon, conservative Christians in America are standing at a crossroads. Whoever the next President is, they will either lead our country towards a renewed future, recovering an American nation that honors Christ as King, or take us further down an anti-God, anti-family, and anti-life trajectory toward societal ruin. Driven by unshakable faith and deeply ingrained convictions, conservative Christians are gearing up to tackle the pivotal political issues that will mold the nation’s trajectory.

Let’s consider four paramount political concerns that resonate deeply within the conservative Christian community in the upcoming election season.

1. Equal Protection for the Unborn and a National Abortion Ban

The quest for equal protection for the unborn remains an unshakable cornerstone for conservative Christians. Learned legal scholars have offered intriguing perspectives, suggesting that the principles of the 14th Amendment could extend to protect the sanctity of unborn life. This contention has sparked vigorous debates and carried far-reaching implications for potentially instituting a national abortion ban in a post-Roe world.

Amid the dynamic landscape of legal discourse, the question of whether the 14th Amendment could be invoked to protect unborn life has emerged as a focal point. Some have advanced the argument that the Amendment’s commitment to ensuring equal protection under the law inherently extends to the most vulnerable among us — the unborn. Citing the historical context and framers’ intent, these scholars contend that the Amendment’s language can be interpreted to encompass the right to life from the moment of conception.

The echoes of past elections resonate with the potency of the pro-life movement. The election of President Ronald Reagan in 1980 stands as a watershed moment, signaling a resurgence of activism among conservative Christians committed to safeguarding life. In his own words, President Reagan declared, “We cannot diminish the value of one category of human life — the unborn — without diminishing the value of all human life.” In 2024, a newly elected President could appoint more judges who uphold an originalist interpretation of the Constitution, steering us closer to the goal of securing equal protection for the unborn and working with Congress to pass a national abortion ban.

Conservative Christians carry these discussions into the heart of the 2024 election season, fortified by their convictions and the belief that the protection of life lies at the core of a just and equitable society. With a newly elected President, the momentum toward equal protection for the unborn could take a significant step forward, signaling a transformative moment in the ongoing pro-life and abolition movement.

Scriptural Support: Psalm 139:13-16 — “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

2. Eradicating Radical Marxism and CRT from Public Schools

Safeguarding the hearts and minds of the next generation from radical ideologies like Marxism and Critical Race Theory (CRT) remains a top concern for conservative Christians. These ideologies undermine the bedrock values we hold dear and threaten to fracture the unity of our nation’s youth. As the 2024 election cycle gathers momentum, the call to cleanse public education of these divisive teachings grows stronger.

Conservative Christians’ concerns about CRT’s divisiveness and alleged anti-American sentiment are rooted in a desire for biblical unity, shared American values, and the truth. While acknowledging the importance of discussing historical injustices, teaching CRT in classrooms undermines these goals by fostering division, perpetuating identity politics, and emphasizing victimhood.

A newly elected President in 2024 could seize the opportunity to champion education reform, empowering parents to shape their children’s curriculum in harmony with their deeply held beliefs.

Scriptural Support: Proverbs 22:6 — “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

3. Defending Freedom of Speech and Religion

Preserving freedoms of speech and religion is another critical issue. The battle to safeguard these foundational rights has taken on heightened significance in the face of mounting challenges, including instances where Christians have faced persecution for expressing their faith.

Recent years have seen a disturbing trend wherein Christians face adversity for openly living out their faith. High-profile incidents have spotlighted this issue. One notable example is the case of a football coach who faced backlash and the threat of job loss for praying in public after games. This incident stands as a stark reminder of the challenges that conservative Christians encounter while exercising their right to religious expression in the public sphere.

Another instance that underscores the fragility of these freedoms is the 303 Creative case. The clash between artistic expression and religious conviction unfolded when several Christian-owned businesses faced legal action for declining to create content that conflicted with their faith. Thankfully the Supreme Court ruled right in the 303 Creative decision, but the case itself paints a vivid picture of the critical need to safeguard the rights of Christians to express their beliefs without fear of retribution or legal action.

A newly elected conservative President could work with Congress to enshrine the ruling from 303 Creative into positive law and advocate for more robust legislation protecting these liberties, steps that would hold immense significance.

Scriptural Support: Acts 4:18-20 — “Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied, ‘Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.’”

4. Stopping the Transgender Movement and Upholding God’s Design

The rise of the transgender movement presents a challenge for conservative Christians who want to protect our nation’s children from this life-destroying ideology. Anchored in the conviction of God’s unchanging design for gender, conservative Christians must stand firm in advocating for the physical, psychological, and spiritual well-being of young individuals — and demand that our next President does the same.

A newly elected President should immediately sign an executive order and then work with Congress to ban the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormone treatments, as several other countries are already doing. Extensive research has shown the significant negative impact these interventions can have on children’s development, from potential long-term effects on bone density and fertility to cognitive function and psychological well-being.

As the 2024 election cycle unfolds, the opportunity to collaborate with legislators and champion policies prioritizing minors’ well-being takes center stage. Faith-based counseling that encourages children to embrace their God-given biological sex must also be prioritized. The collective voice and vote of conservative Christians can be used to end the horrors of the transgender movement for good.

Scriptural Support: Genesis 1:27 — “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Conclusion

As the curtain rises on the 2024 election season, conservative Christians must embrace their sacred duty and political stewardship to champion their values and beliefs. Through tireless advocacy for equal protection for the unborn, unwavering determination to counter divisive ideologies in education, steadfast defense of freedom of speech and religion, and committed engagement to end the transgender movement, conservative Christians stand poised to profoundly influence the nation’s trajectory. Drawing from the wisdom of past elections and the dedication of previous generations, we must envision a future where our convictions are expressed in law and policy — and represented in the White House with a President who rules justly according to God’s righteous standards.
