An Open Letter to Pro-Choice Christians: Is This What You’re Offering to God?

/

Church, you are the Bride of Christ. If ever a dose of fierce, exhortative accountability were to be rendered towards the rebellious minority among you, that time is now.

To those Christians who identify as pro-choice: How dare you! How dare you bear the name of God while aligning with an agenda that slaughters thousands of His image-bearers deliberately and routinely?

Recent events have surfaced fierce discussions about abortion, which is expected. But what I did not expect to see was the plethora of Christians coming to the defense of the pro-choice agenda…and it breaks my heart. There are many Christians who are working endlessly to stop this infanticide, an atrocity that should be easily and automatically denounced by all Christians. It’s bad enough that pro-life Christians face worldly opposition, but they are also now facing opposition from the very army that should be fighting with them โ€” self-identifying Christians!

Pro-Choice Christians, this is not a time for your rebuttal, but for your silence.

Donโ€™t be swayed by the worldly pro-choice movement that justifies abortion as in the best interest of the mother and an act of mercy towards the unwanted child. As a Christian, you need to recognize this statement as a lie. Isaiah 5:20, ESV, clearly warns: โ€œWoe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!โ€

To you, pro-choice Christians, I ask the following:

1. Is this what you’re offering to God?

We are called to live holy, sanctified lives. This is what the Bible means by “living sacrifice” โ€” lives separated from the ways of the world and pleasing to God.

Succumbing to worldly narratives is evidence of an unregenerate heart.

To you, pro-choice Christian, this is not a time for your rebuttal, but rather your silent attention.

“Sacrifice” is symbolic of Old Testament rituals where sins would be reconciled by repentance. It was more tangible then as God physically spoke to His people. Can you imagine that today? Going to repentance but hiding your support for abortion? Do you imagine God being very pleased? Can one genuinely be at peace with God and reconciled to His heart while supporting this agenda?

Through His prophet, God also warned us in Isaiah 1:15-17, ESV: โ€œWhen you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.โ€

2. Do you realize that you will one day answer to God?

The blood of the aborted will continue to cry out for vengeance until the return of Christ and His subsequent establishment of righteousness and justice throughout the earth. Every day, even as I write this, lives are being lost. If you are a Christian, then you know how much God loves you and what He did to show you this love. His love is also for the aborted. The gospel message is for the aborted. The jurisdiction of the Cross covers the lives of these precious children because God loves their souls just as much as He loves the souls of the born.

God does not see โ€œbornโ€ or โ€œunborn.โ€ To God, all souls were planned long before their bodies’ conception. One day you will have to answer to God as to why you supported a movement that intentionally ended these lives prematurely.

In Leviticus 20: 1-3, God showed his fury towards even the idea of His people killing a child in the name of an idol, and the consequences of actually doing it were severe. โ€œThe LORD spoke to Moses, saying, โ€˜Say to the people of Israel, Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. I myself will set my face against that man and will cut him off from among his people, because he has given one of his children to Molech, to make my sanctuary unclean and to profane my holy name.โ€™โ€

Interestingly enough, we see the same thing today. Our infants are still dying in the name of idolatry โ€” the idol of entitlement and selfishness.

3. Have you forgotten that these human lives are image-bearers of God?

When God formed these bodies, these souls, these lives, He did not do this so that they could be dissolved in acid, speared with a scalpel, ripped apart limb by limb, or even have their lives ended in some “humane” fashion. These human beings are His creation and have been knit together for a unique and special purpose. God made each one of them in His image, in His likeness.

Who are you to promote a conflicting plan?!

4. Do any of these questions matter to you?

If not, your highest priority should be making yourself right with God. I cannot determine another’s salvation…but the Bible is clear that our faith will be made evident by our fruits. When you support an agenda that terminates the existence of God’s most valued creation, you expose the cancerous sin that runs through the veins of your spiritual being.

Pro-choice Christians must heed Paulโ€™s exhortation in 2 Corinthians 13:5, ESV: โ€œExamine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? โ€” unless indeed you fail to meet the test!โ€

To support abortion is a sin. So to the Christian who is in sin, please remember that the blood of Jesus calls out to you and wants you back in community with Him. There is no sin so great that it cannot be redeemed. Abortion is terrible, but if you repent and turn away from this sin, you will be welcomed back into the loving arms of the Father.
